ABOUT CAIBI

Turn an interesting idea into a practical build.

CAIBI means Can AI Build It? We help curious beginners and experienced makers find a starting point, work out whether it is feasible for them, and develop what is missing with the help of AI.

SmartKnob physical haptic control in use

From an interesting idea to an informed build.

SmartKnob combines firmware, a motor and a physical enclosure. Its assessment brings the parts, AI assistance and precision assembly work into one view.

01Start with something physical

A project, object, process, machine or useful signal that ends in the real world.

02Find where AI helps

Research, CAD, code and troubleshooting can make a task easier. You still check the result against the real project.

03Keep the physical work visible

Printing, cutting, sewing, wiring, machining, assembly, alignment, finishing and testing do not disappear because AI is involved.

WHY CAIBI EXISTS

The interesting idea is only the start.

A video can show a finished object without showing the tools, skills, extra costs or failed attempts behind it. AI can generate plausible instructions without knowing whether a part fits. CAIBI brings the project source, requirements, alternatives and limits together, then adds proposed completion routes: prompts to adapt the firmware, questions to resolve the design, enclosure guidance and checks for a first prototype. The aim is to help you work out what is feasible before committing to a full build.

You can use it to learn one skill, adapt an open project, plan a complete build, or decide that buying or outsourcing makes more sense. You do not need to own a workshop or use AI at every step.

It is also a place to expand what you think you can make. Move beyond following instructions: question a design choice, compare another process, connect two ideas and test a small version. The exploration briefs help you turn curiosity into a result you can judge.

FIND YOUR STARTING POINT

What would you like to do?

Learn a practical skill

Work through CAD, data or firmware exercises. Each path builds towards a project handoff, with browser practice before hardware decisions.

Develop something to make

Find an idea, then use a CAIBI guided route to work through the missing pieces. Source tutorials remain credited and guidance stays separate from tested results.

Work out what you need

Choose an equipment process, a useful AI workflow or a data source. Then return to your project's parts, skills and build requirements.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

A guide to decisions, with the original sources in reach.

CAIBI links to creators and manufacturers; their files and instructions remain the starting point for a build. Assessments are editorial judgements from the evidence shown, not a claim that CAIBI has built or tested every item. First-hand builder reports are identified separately. A CAIBI guided build adds a proposed route and prompts. Only a version we have physically built and documented can earn a Built by CAIBI tick.

The catalogue is selective and developing. A category with no assessed products is a gap in CAIBI's coverage, not proof that no suitable equipment exists. Unknown prices, incomplete parts lists and provisional findings should remain visible.

WHAT BELONGS HERE

The connection has to reach the physical world.

CAIBI is interested in projects and equipment where digital design, instructions, code or data become a real object, mechanism, display, garment, instrument or fabrication process.
